Hello and thank you for visiting. I hope you find inspiration here and see things both new and interesting.
The story of Sam:
I am a Colorado Boy and a family man.
I love music. It is a topic in much of my work. I play the fiddle, mandolin, and banjo -- poorly.
I love to camp and take road trips with my beautiful wife.
I am very interested in nature and modern dilemmas like global warming and pollution.
I love turtles. Not to eat, but conceptually. Turtles have come to represent my path in life.
I am an amateur beekeeper. The plight of bees is a barometer of the Planet's and our own well being.
My first degree is in finance. My second degree is Master of Architecture.
My goal in painting is process oriented. In my own way I try to reveal beauty and scratch away at the surface of the sublime. To me the world is full of mystery and humor.
Most of my paintings are watercolors which can be viewed without glass or frames. Great care is taken in the selection of materials for my work. Not only seeking the highest quality and archivability, but also matching materials conceptually to my work. For example, I use Sennelier and Graham watercolor pigment for my paintings. They each use honey as the binder. This is most appropriate for a painter interested in the plight of bees.
Ongoing information about painting and process can be gleaned from my blog. I blog sporadically as interesting things come up.
